The industry standard for acceptable soldered electrical and electronic assemblies.

Learning objectives
  • Apply J-STD-001 requirements for reliable soldered connections
  • Hand-solder and evaluate through-hole and surface-mount terminations
  • Interpret material, process, and workmanship requirements by class
  • Identify acceptable versus defective solder joints and conditions
  • Apply wire, terminal, and component termination requirements
  • Follow ESD, cleanliness, and rework requirements
  • Prepare for the J-STD-001 certification exam (includes a hands-on assessment)
Prerequisites

J-STD-001 includes a hands-on soldering assessment alongside the written exam.

  • Ability to read and understand technical documents in English
  • Visual acuity to distinguish fine detail and color (corrective lenses or magnification permitted)
  • Basic soldering and electronics-assembly familiarity
  • Manual dexterity for bench soldering tasks

Recertification (Challenge test)
Renew a current certification by exam only, scheduled midweek.
