Procedures for rework, modification, and repair of electronic assemblies.

Learning objectives
  • Perform component rework and PCB repair per IPC-7711/7721
  • Remove and replace through-hole and surface-mount components
  • Repair laminate, conductors, lands, and plated holes
  • Remove and replace conformal coating
  • Select the appropriate rework method and tooling for each task
  • Meet class 1, 2, or 3 requirements for rework and repair
  • Prepare for the IPC-7711/7721 certification exam (includes hands-on)
Prerequisites

Rework and repair is hands-on intensive — soldering experience is strongly recommended.

  • Ability to read and understand technical documents in English
  • Visual acuity to distinguish fine detail and color (corrective lenses or magnification permitted)
  • Prior soldering experience (J-STD-001 or equivalent recommended)
  • Manual dexterity for fine rework tasks

Certified to train others to the CIS level.
Recertification (Challenge test)
Renew a current certification by exam only, scheduled midweek.
