Procedures for rework, modification, and repair of electronic assemblies.
Learning objectives
- Perform component rework and PCB repair per IPC-7711/7721
- Remove and replace through-hole and surface-mount components
- Repair laminate, conductors, lands, and plated holes
- Remove and replace conformal coating
- Select the appropriate rework method and tooling for each task
- Meet class 1, 2, or 3 requirements for rework and repair
- Prepare for the IPC-7711/7721 certification exam (includes hands-on)
Prerequisites
Rework and repair is hands-on intensive — soldering experience is strongly recommended.
- Ability to read and understand technical documents in English
- Visual acuity to distinguish fine detail and color (corrective lenses or magnification permitted)
- Prior soldering experience (J-STD-001 or equivalent recommended)
- Manual dexterity for fine rework tasks
