- Minimizing ESD in the workplace

- General IPC terms and definitions (product classifications, acceptance criteria, etc.)
- Selected common electronic terms
Solder/Desolder Rework
- Fluxes
- Proper cleaning methodology
- Formation of intermetallics
- Solder melting points, etc.
Learning objectives
- Remove and replace surface-mount components without board damage
- Perform fine-pitch and area-array (BGA) rework
- Apply controlled heating, site preparation, and reflow methods
- Inspect reworked assemblies to acceptance criteria
- Select rework equipment and thermal profiles per package
Prerequisites
A hands-on advanced course — soldering experience is required.
- Prior soldering experience (IPC-7711/7721 familiarity helpful)
- Ability to read and understand technical documents in English
- Visual acuity to distinguish fine detail and color (corrective lenses or magnification permitted)
